EDINBURGH JUNIORS

S1 - S3

The Schools Outreach Programme is an integral part of Edinburgh University Debates Union’s aim to foster public dialogue. It is intended to provide young people with tools to express their ideas through structured argumentation. Additionally, we aim for children to build up confidence and trust their public speaking skills, while engaging in debate as a way to broaden their minds with different points of view.

We are able to provide workshops to interested schools and we annually hold two competitions: Edinburgh Juniors (28th November 2020) and Edinburgh Schools (March). They both take place on a Saturday, at the University of Edinburgh.

The competitions consist of three rounds of British Parliamentary debate followed by a Grand Final. Edinburgh Juniors (for ages 11-13) is an opportunity for new debaters to have a first approach to competitive debating in a fun Saturday activity. Registration is open for all schools wishing to participate, at a £30 per team fee, with special discounts for teams participating for the first time.
