Taking debate
to schools
The largest schools debating programme in Scotland, run entirely by students.
What we offer
EUDU members travel to schools across Scotland to teach debating, and bring pupils into the University for two competitions a year. Everything is run by volunteers from the union.
Workshops in your school
A member team comes to you and runs an introductory session: the format, the roles, and a first debate on the day. Suitable for any year group and any level of experience.
Competitions at the University
Two competitions a year bring school teams into Edinburgh to debate in University rooms, judged by our members.
Teacher support
Motions, judging notes and format guides for teachers running a debating club, whether or not you have debated yourself.
The competitions
| Competition | What it is | When |
|---|---|---|
| Edinburgh Juniors | Our competition for younger pupils, run at the University. Entry details go out to schools each autumn. | 13 November |
| Edinburgh Schools | The senior competition, for older secondary school students, open to teams from across Scotland. | March |
